Making Tax Digital for Income Tax now applies to some landlords and sole traders. From 6 April 2026, it applies where qualifying income from property and self-employment is more than £50,000. The threshold falls to more than £30,000 from April 2027 and more than £20,000 from April 2028.
What landlords need to do
- Keep digital records of property income and expenses.
- Use compatible software for quarterly updates and the required tax submissions.
- Retain invoices and receipts in a way that can be reconciled to the property and expense.
Where Landlord Buddy fits
Landlord Buddy can organise property expenses, maintenance costs and receipts. It is not currently represented as HMRC-recognised MTD filing software, so landlords must still use compatible filing software or their accountant for submissions.
